About Charlotte Zink
Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, I came to Colorado in 1987. I studied at UC Boulder and have a BA in Studio Arts & Art Teacher certification. I enjoyed teaching art in both Colorado and Washington, DC for awhile before returning to Colorado and becoming a mother. In years past I’ve focused on watercolor, mask making and hand made paper creations. As of late I have been drawing, painting and sculpting metal with the help of my incredible partner, Ben. Collaboration has taught us so much about the creative process and ourselves.
Finding and refinishing the 1897 historic “George Pollack House” on the main street of Berthoud, Colorado has allowed us to work from home in our metal shop, display in our own studio gallery and raise our two children together. Growing up in New Orleans has imprinted the spirit of the jester in my soul, and I’m always happy to see that harlequin in me coming out in my artwork. Our life as parents and artists at times resembles the crazy dance of a couple of jugglers, but we feel constantly challenged and inspired, and I think the whimsical, light hearted nature of our creations shows this beautifully.
The metal artwork in our collection is created together by both Ben and me. I draw the designs free hand directly onto the sheet of metal with a soapstone or water crayon. Ben skillfully hand cuts each one with a plasma cutter. Together we enjoy discovering recycled objects at the salvage yards, working on sculpture design and creating our different finishes. Designs can be executed as wall hangings, sculptures or garden stakes with a variety of different finishes. Custom work is always welcome. Custom family portraits, custom addresses and kid’s art reproductions are three areas we love working with.
Treating your metal art piece with care… Unfinished steel will continue to rust outdoors; an even finish is assisted by an occasional scrubbing with a dry abrasive scouring pad, like Scotch Brite. Aluminum and Powder coated steel pieces will be fine in and out of doors. Hand painted and oil rubbed pieces are going to be happiest displayed inside. Be careful not to scratch finishes while installing or cleaning. Thank you so much for your interest and support. Enjoy!
