My paintings are inspired by my fascination with texture, color and composition. Originally trained in calligraphy, my explorations of media have included printmaking, watercolor, pastel and more recently, traditional oil painting. My recent foray into abstraction draws heavily upon all of the above and is driven by my longstanding romance with the tactile quality of paper and the amazing flexibility of oil paint as a glazing and structural medium. My present works are inspired by color and texture and are strongly influenced by Eastern images. Often requiring fifteen to twenty layers of color, they strive to create a painted surface with the depth, luminosity and textural diversity of the natural world. Response to these works has been immediate and strong, echoing the emotional response to the natural phenomena of light and color. I am a member of Colorado Pastel Society, Boulder County Art Alliance and PaperWorks , Tucson AZ.
