Painting directly from nature is very important to me. I love to see the real color of light on my subjects, and see many more possibilities when there. I often finish a larger painting on site, but even in the studio I can rely on the intial 2-3 hour sketch. I had a grandfather, (see Vose galleries) who painted in this impressionistic/representaive style. HIs work was the prime reason I got into painting.Even though I have been painting some 20 years, I still feel each year I know so much more, and I love that growing process.
