About Gail Smith

Gail’s first love is working in watercolor.  She enjoys experimenting with different papers and techniques such as monotype and W/C with ink resist. The rich colorful landscapes of Colorado have been her inspiration for many of her paintings.  The animal world has not escaped her attention and these studies are created in colored pencil and/or watercolor.

Another medium Gail works with is encaustics, an old Egyptian art form of painting with hot wax.  She uses a modern day encaustic iron and stylus to create her paintings and has been experimenting with special heat resistant sponges and metal spatulas.   She is just beginning to explore this medium and can’t wait to see where it leads.

Gail began her art studies at Henry Ford Community College in Michigan.  She has also taken classes and workshops with nationally acclaimed artists.  Most recently she has studied watercolor with Mark Silvers, Joe Fettingis and Steven Quiller.

She has won awards for both her watercolors and encaustics.

Artist Statement:

My desire is for people to enjoy my art as much as I enjoy creating it.
