Growing up, I was always fascinated how my grandfather, being a storyteller in his own right – a magician, would have an entire audience mesmerized by a very simple story to go along with each trick. His stories were not only for the merriment of a room full of strangers, it was the vehicle by which he could reveal a part of himself. There’s a story behind everything I paint, design or sculpt. Without a story I’m just staring at a blank canvas.
And with that “story-telling” approach I have illustrated books, painted landscapes and designed websites. But my real passion of subject matter is the human figure. More importantly, the human figure as it exists and interacts within a 3-dimensional space. The environment is the frame by which we view the world. The human form is beautifully made but the backdrop is just as important.
My focus now is to create a series of work that relates to one another as a whole. My drive, currently, is to get back to a story, a story with an unknown ending.
I’ll avoid the “tragic” ending.
