About Chris Cain
After 16 years of teaching art and photography to teenagers from Philadelphia to the past eleven in Commerce City, I’ve been given the opportunity by my incredible spouse to undergo a personal re-invention. So much of my creativity was spent on being a mentor to others that somewhere in the past several years my personal creativity waned, but, all along, I never stopped making photographs. An artistic renaissance has ensued, as ideas and work gush from my pores as I print through negatives stored and aged like fine wine.
Medium The camera, whether film or digital, is just a different kind of paint brush. I work in traditional and digital photographic processes, often combining the two. Also, the art work, at times, combines integrating found objects into the work. Traditional black & white photos printed on archival fiber based paper are usually around 7” square matted in 16x20 frames or shadow boxes. Larger pieces, up to 13x19, are done on an ink jet printer. I do all the processes, including the framing, myself.
Artist’s Statement
Most of the photographs are about the landscape, dealing with geography, autobiography and metaphor. Image capturing (taking pictures) is just the beginning. The process of making photographic art is, at the very least, two fold. Darkroom, and digital alchemy then happen to help achieve what has always been the goal, to create works of art that are beautiful, unique and visually intriguing within themselves.
