About Charlie Anderson
When I take a photograph, I’m trying to record a connection I feel with what I’ve been observing. I’m trying to capture the essence of that connection in the moment of composition: the brooding presence of a canyon wall, the delicate beauty of a wildflower blooming in a mountain meadow, the freshness of a field of grasses after a rain shower, or the ecstatic spring song of a returning meadowlark. If the viewer senses that same connection to the subject of my photograph, the same sudden perception of beauty or power or pattern, then I have succeeded.
The photographer from whom I’ve learned the most spent much of his career using 35mm slide film, a very unforgiving medium. He doesn’t use darkroom tricks or digital manipulation to “fix” his photographs. I try to emulate that: go into the field and take the very best picture possible. My photos are largely unmanipulated -- real skies, real rocks, real flowers, real light. I hope you enjoy them.
